As ISIS continues to make inroads in the Sinai Peninsula, fighting the Egyptian military in a war of attrition that has left the North African nation on edge for years, an Egyptian tank driver acted heroically in saving civilians by running over a would-be suicide bomber.

The tank accelerated towards the suicide car bomb to contain the blast near a checkpoint in one of the largest cities in the Sinai peninsula. “The explosion was large, carrying about 100 kilograms of high explosives,” the Egyptian army said in a statement following the incident.

The group has made headlines in recent months with its consistent targeting of Christian minorities throughout Egypt, including suicide bombing church services and massacring bus passengers.

Let’s hope that the Egyptian military maintains this type of vigilance going forward to ensure that the jihadist group is eradicated once and for all.
