Want to make a hundred million dollars? Just be a victim!

Last month we reported on the case of Mohamad Bazzi, a Muslim man from Dearborn, Michigan, who is suing the pizza chain Little Caesars for $100 million - a hefty sum for a chain known for advertising their $5 pizza deals.

What was the basis of this lawsuit? Mohamad ordered pepperoni pizza, and then ate pepperoni. According to his lawsuit, he “accidentally” ate a portion of the pepperoni pizza that he believed to have been made with halal meat (apparently it was haram), as it’s against the Islamic faith to consume pork. Mohamad filed a police report regarding the incident back in March (yes, really) prior to filing his lawsuit.

Just as quickly as the lawsuit was filed, it crumbled. According to Fox 2 Detroit, Attorney for Little Caesars said on Friday that a lawsuit that claimed a Detroit-area Muslim man had been served pepperoni pizza instead of halal pepperoni was being dropped. However, the man’s attorneys are disputing that assertion.

Little Caesars says after they were made aware of Mohamad Bazzi’s lawsuit, they looked into the matter — as the consumption of pork is strictly forbidden under Muslim law.

They say they found the allegations to be false and presented those results to Bazzi’s attorney before heading into court.

“We shared the results of what we learned with Mr. Bazzi’s attorney, which caused him to tell us he would dismiss the lawsuit,” said Mike Huget from local Detroit law firm Honigman Miller Schwartz and Cohn.

Attorneys for Bazzi released a statement to FOX 2 saying that claims of the lawsuit being dropped were not accurate. Attorneys claim that they said the planned to dismiss the lawsuit in order to add additional plaintiffs.

Isn’t there some Quranic prohibition on lying somewhere in the (un)holy book? You’d think the religious consequence for lying would be worse than the one for eating something.

The only real sin it seems was committed here is that of all the pizza choices this man had available, he chose Little Caesars.
