Donald Trump implemented an extremely-toned down version of his promised Muslim ban, imposing a 90-day ban through executive order on people entering the U.S. from Iraq, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. The justification here being that those nations are overrun by Jihadist violence.

The order also temporarily halted refugee admissions for 120 days, and caps total refugee admissions at 50,000 a year (the typical amount admitted during George W. Bush and Obama’s administrations).

Lastly, the order puts an indefinite hold on the admission of Sryian refugees to America, “until such time as I [Donald Trump] have determined that sufficient changes have been made to the USRAP to ensure that admission of Syrian refugees is consistent with the national interest.” As the National Review’s David French noted, “this is perhaps the least consequential aspect of his order — and is largely a return to the Obama administration’s practices from 2011 to 2014. For all the Democrats’ wailing and gnashing of teeth, until 2016, the Obama administration had already largely slammed the door on Syrian-refugee admissions.” As the Syrian Civil War began in 2011, Obama had only allowed in 201 refugees by 2014 - so who knows what caused that change of heart.

Oh - and by the way, those seven countries on which the president issued the temporary ban? Those weren’t picked out by him. They were picked in 2015 and 2016… by the Obama administration. Trump doesn’t even list those nations specifically in his executive order, he simply lists that he’s banning those nations named in the Terrorist Travel Prevention Act of 2015.

Lastly, all the nations listed in the ban with the exception of Somalia have one thing in common: a travel ban about which NO liberal will ever express outrage — because it involves Israel. And in these cases, it’s a PERMANENT ban…
