Michael Moore thinks he has the formula for defeating President Trump in 2020.

According to him, those who are searching for the next great Democratic star in the political or business pages are missing the mark, because the next Democrat to take the White House could come from the entertainment pages.

Moore argues, “The celebrities on our side, first of all, are smart. If we ran Al Franken, ran Tom Hanks — who wouldn’t vote for Tom Hanks for president of the United States? C’mon! Or Oprah!”

Moore’s remark, which he said on The View, can be heard on the video below:

Jedediah Bila, the show’s conservative, pushed back against the filmmaker by stating, “Many Americans feel that those celebrities are out of touch. A lot of people would tell you ‘they don’t understand my needs.’”

However, Whoopi Goldberg, whose only qualification for her current career as a political pundit is that she is (or was) a celebrity, having starred in such awful films like Sister Act and Jumping Jack Flash , claimed that the election of Trump proves American’s willingness to vote for celebrities.

She said, “It’s very clear that America loves celebrities, ’cause that’s why they voted for him.”

Moore, who is himself a bit of a celebrity pundit despite the light viewership of his documentaries, has a point.

The following Saturday Night Live, provided below, featuring The Rock announcing his 2020 candidacy with Tom Hanks as his running mate, got decent laughs.

But polls show that if the Rock were to run he’d be quite formidable.

According to PublicPolicyPolling.com:

We also looked at Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s prospects if he were to run for President as a Democrat. 36 percent of voters see Johnson favorably to 13 percent with a negative view of him, although 50 percent of voters have no opinion about him either way. Both Democrats (38/15) and Republicans (31/17) see him positively. Johnson would lead Trump 42/37 in a prospective contest, and wins over 15 percent of people who supported Trump last fall.

In a government that could feature both Al Franken and Kid Rock as senators, who’s to say a celebrity as famous as Tom Hanks would not be president?
