America is shouting as loudly as we collectively can, “We don’t care what you think about politics, we just want to be entertained!” at Hollywood and members of the NFL — yet they either don’t understand, don’t care, or some combination of the two.
While disrespecting our flag and national anthem dominates headlines, other figures in other sports have decided to pick up on the theme, too.Perhaps none bigger than the five-time NBA championship head coach, Gregg Popovich.
“Pop,” as he’s known to players and figures around the league — and who is a shoe-in for the NBA Hall of Fame — decided to use the San Antonio media day yesterday to blast President Trump and go off on how awful this country is. He cut loose not only with a social-justice agenda but a full-on no-holds-barred hate-filled rant about America. At one point he declared that “Our country is an embarrassment to the world.”
The story was picked up by Blue Lives Matter:
“Spurs’ coach Gregg Popovich went on a broken rant about white privilege on Monday, and declared that “Our country is an embarrassment to the world.”Gregg Popvich was talking about the protests to the national anthem, which started out as an anti-police protest and have now morphed into something else where nobody seems to have any idea what anybody is protesting. Are they protesting police? Racial inequality? Donald Trump? The right to free speech?
Nobody seems to know why anybody is kneeling any more, but Popvich focused on white privilege.
“You know, obviously, race is the elephant in the room, and we all understand that, but unless it is talked about constantly it’s not going to get better,” Popovich started. “People get bored, oh is it that again, they pull the race card again, ‘why do we have to talk about that?’ Well, because it’s uncomfortable.”Really, Pop? People aren’t talking about race enough? That’s odd, because it seems to everyone else as if that’s just about all we’re talking about nowadays.
But Coach Popovich wasn’t done:“There has to be an uncomfortable element in the discourse for anything to change. You know, whether it’s LGBT movement, or, you know, women’s suffrage, race, it it doesn’t matter. People have to be made to feel uncomfortable, and especially white people because we’re comfortable.
“We still have no clue about what being born white means,” Popovich said. “And if you read some of the recent literature, you’ll realize that there really is no such thing as whiteness, but we kind of made it up.”
“It’s like you’re at the 50 meter mark in a 100 meter dash, and you’ve got that kind of a lead, yes, because you were born white. You have advantages that are systemically, culturally, psychologically there. And they have been built up, cemented for hundreds of years.”
“People want to hold their position, people want the status quo, people don’t want to give that up, and until it’s given up, it’s not going to be fixed.”
Watch below:
Ever notice how all the people talking down to us from their high horses of righteousness are mega-millionaires? Hopefully more and more are realizing that all these America-haters never offer any solutions! What good is a ‘protest’ if you have no plans for improvement? Pop — and others — keep saying things like “we need to fix it.” Okay, fix what…and how?!
We never seem to get those answers, but one thing is certainly going to be fixed: the problem of people not being able to purchase tickets to see teams play. Already we’re seeing a LOT of empty seats becoming available.
