The next time someone on the Left complains about the Right’s misogyny or how their love trumps hate, perhaps that person could be reminded of how many of their ideological cohort’s reacted to a surprising confession from the daughter of the president about her past struggles with postpartum depression.
Speaking to Dr. Mehmet Oz, host of television’s The Dr. Oz Show, Ivanka Trump confessed:With each of my three children I had some level of postpartum depression. It was a very challenging emotional time for me because I felt I was not living up to my potential as a parent, or as an entrepreneur, and as an executive.
Postpartum depression is indeed a very serious problem that affects “21.9 percent during the first postpartum year.”
Sadly, about 20 percent of those who suffer from postpartum depression commit suicide, which is the second leading cause of death among postpartum women.One would assume that any reasonably decent human being would be sympathetic to anyone admitting to being challenged by this mental disorder - especially someone like Ivanka Trump whose public persona is one of an endless series of successes. And that assumption would be true.
However, many on the Left have shown that they are not reasonably decent human beings.

Of course, many of the comments regarding Ms. Trump’s postpartum depression are based upon the misconception that Republicans are opposed to healthcare for all except the rich.

This is untrue.
The latest Republican healthcare bill - Graham-Cassidy - merely attempts to move the task of managing healthcare to the states. It does not require victims of “pre-existing conditions” such as postpartum depression to lose their coverage. In fact, given the current political climate, it seems doubtful that any would see a decrease in coverage, and even possible that some would see an increase.
Furthermore, President Trump has had the following to say on whether Graham-Cassidy would cover postpartum depression and other pre-existing conditions:
I would not sign Graham-Cassidy if it did not include coverage of pre-existing conditions. It does! A great Bill. Repeal & Replace.

Regardless, Ivanka Trump is not responsible for any changes in anyone’s health insurance. She certainly did not argue for any such changes on Dr. Oz.
She spoke as a mother about her affliction with a problem that affects 1 in 7 mothers and causes 1 in 5 of those mothers to kill themselves — no matter what their political affiliation.
Too bad sharing her problem was not universally received in the generous spirit it offered.
