Recently, President Trump spoke in front of the United Nations for the first time. During the speech, the president pulled no punches, launching harsh criticisms at countries like Venezuela, Iran, and North Korea.

After years of Obama’s apologetic tone, Trump’s speech was a stunning change of pace.

While reactions at home are sure to be drawn along partisan lines, international reactions to the speech are much more telling. As the speech was made in front of an international body, reactions from around the world were quick to pour in. Most notably, Trump’s tone was lauded by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

From the Daily Caller:

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he had “never heard a bolder or more courageous speech” after hearing President Donald Trump’s Tuesday address to the United National General Assembly.

Netanyahu tweeted his support for Trump’s speech shortly after the president’s speech to the group of foreign leaders from 193 different countries at the U.N.’s 72nd annual gathering in New York City.

“In over 30 years in my experience with the UN, I never heard a bolder or more courageous speech,” Netanyahu tweeted, followed by some more tweets about the speech.

The praise from Netanyahu was a complete reversal from just under a year ago, especially after blasting both President Obama and the UN. With Trump taking over, American relations with Israel have enjoyed a drastic improvement.

Further east, an analyst in South Korea called Trump’s speech “strong words,” while the North Korean delegation walked out in protest.

Over in Iran, leaders slammed Trump’s speech, calling it “mean.”

Iran has lashed out at President Donald Trump’s “mean and pointless” remarks about it in his address to the United Nations.

Addressing the General Assembly on Tuesday, Trump called Iran’s government a “reckless regime” that is running an “economically depleted rogue state,” whose chief export is “violence, bloodshed and chaos.”

The semi-official ISNA news agency quotes Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif as saying Trump’s “impudent and ignorant” remarks are divorced from reality, and ignore Iran’s role in fighting terrorism.

Whether positive or negative, international reactions to Trump’s remarks show that times have, indeed, changed. Clearly, foreign leaders are no longer dealing with a passive, apologetic, American president. For America’s enemies, the change may be an unwelcome one. For allies, strong American leadership was just what they needed.
