Major retailer ditches separate “boys” and “girls” clothing departments to avoid gender stereotypes

Why are liberals always targeting innocent children? First, they campaign to have them eliminated in the womb. If that doesn’t work, they set out to indoctrinate their fresh little minds as soon as possible, and force parents to answer questions children really don’t need to be asking.

No doubt coming soon to a store near you, the end of separate departments for girls and boys clothing. Because why wouldn’t moms want to buy dresses for their toddler sons? Or something.

It’s starting in the U.K., but you can be sure retailers in the U.S. are considering it.

Per the Independent, John Lewis has become the first UK retailer to remove gender labels from its children’s clothing.

John Lewis has been in business in the UK since 1864 on London’s Oxford Street, and has grown to become the largest omni-channel retailer in the UK, with 48 John Lewis stores and 354 Waitrose supermarkets.

The department store chain has not only taken “girls” and “boys” labels from clothes, but has also done away with the separate sections in stores.

John Lewis own-brand children clothing will now simply say “Girls & Boys” or “Boys & Girls.”

The clothing style hasn’t changed – you’ll still find floral dresses and skirts, but the retailer is simply proving the point that they can be worn by both girls and boys.

They’ve also launched a new unisex clothing line for children, featuring dinosaur print dresses and spaceship tops.

Caroline Bettis, the head of childrenswear at John Lewis, said: “We do not want to reinforce gender stereotypes within our John Lewis collections and instead want to provide greater choice and variety to our customers, so that the parent or child can choose what they would like to wear.”

Liberals celebrated of course…

But then comes the conservative kill-joys…

So a question: What prevented a parent or child from going to the other department to choose clothes before this moment? Why is this “virtue signaling” so important?

Well, it hasn’t come to clothing here yet, but Target in the U.S. has already ditched gender labels in the toys and bedding departments. In 2015, the company announced:

…Guests have raised important questions about a handful of signs in our stores that offer product suggestions based on gender. In some cases, like apparel, where there are fit and sizing differences, it makes sense. In others, it may not. Historically, guests have told us that sometimes—for example, when shopping for someone they don’t know well—signs that sort by brand, age or gender help them get ideas and find things faster. But we know that shopping preferences and needs change and, as guests have pointed out, in some departments like Toys, Home or Entertainment, suggesting products by gender is unnecessary.

Well, at least Target still understands boys’ and girls’ bodies are different. One wonders why John Lewis didn’t get that memo.

How long ‘til men’s and women’s departments are completely eliminated? Surely that will have to go as well, since we now know there are many more than just two genders. Everyone knows gender is just a “social construct,” right?
