He said it, he meant it, and Trump is NOT backing down

President Trump continues to double down on a controversial remark he made earlier this week about the violence coming from the Charlottesville protest being the fault of folks on both sides of the political spectrum.

The president recently went on a Twitter spree, stating that he thought the Confederate statues erected in different parts of the country ought to remain up, as they are reminders of our history and what we can learn from it.

According to the Daily Mail:

‘Sad to see the history and culture of our great country being ripped apart with the removal of our beautiful statues and monuments. You can’t change history, but you can learn from it. Robert E Lee, Stonewall Jackson — who’s next, Washington, Jefferson? So foolish!’ he wrote Thursday in series of tweets.

‘Also the beauty that is being taken out of our cities, towns and parks will be greatly missed and never able to be comparably replaced!’ Trump added.

President Trump had made similar comments at his free-wheeling press conference on Tuesday from the lobby of Trump Tower, but they were eclipsed in the media by statements he made about counter-protesters, gathered in Charlottesville to march against hate groups, being partially at fault for the violence that occurred.

Members of the various hate groups –- neo-Nazis, KKK, and white supremacists –- were in Charlottesville to attend a ‘Unite the Right’ gathering and were protesting the removal of a statue of Lee, who led the Confederate effort during the Civil War.

‘So this week it’s Robert E. Lee. I noticed that Stonewall Jackson is coming down,’ Trump mentioned at the press conference.

A lot of folks might think Trump is being overdramatic about thinking people will want to see our founding fathers’ statues and monuments removed, but that’s precisely what a pastor in Chicago is calling for, so maybe there’s something to this, after all.
