Working for a failed presidential campaign is a better gig than you’d think — so long as you’re one of those near the top.
You may remember that back in October, Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin got the campaign in serious trouble when investigators found official emails on husband Anthony Weiner’s laptop. They were only discovered because of the FBI’s ongoing, active investigation into the illicit text messages Weiner had sent a 15-year-old girl. As a result, the FBI reopened the probe into Clinton’s emails — which it closed the week of the election.Today, Hillary lists the FBI’s reopening of its investigation as one of the countless reasons she lost the election to Donald Trump.
Despite all that, Abedin remains on the Clinton dole to this day. The Daily Caller reports:The former Clinton aide and confidant has picked up almost $65,000 in salary since Hillary’s campaign ended in defeat to Donald Trump last November, according to Federal Election Commission documents.
The Hillary for America campaign provided a salary to Abedin of $52,180.65 from mid-November last year to the end of March 2017. From April until the end of June, Abedin earned another $12,234.45.
Having stuffed the election war chest with $1.4 billion, the Clinton campaign was awash in cash, and Abedin is not alone in being an ongoing recipient of that money. Clinton’s former press secretary, Nick Merrill, was still on the payroll at least until late June — according to the latest figures available.Robert Russo, who also worked for Hillary’s campaign, has remained as Clinton’s director of correspondence for the Office of Hillary Clinton.
The Clinton largesse also extends to assistance for the Democratic “resistance” to President Trump: another lump sum of $800,000 has gone to Onward Together in order to stymie Trump’s legislative efforts. She continues to seek other ways to reward he political allies with left-over campaign money.
Now, Donald Trump’s campaign committee is still paying staffers too — but that’s because Trump has filed for re-election, and the campaign committee will serve a purpose in the 2020 race.Hillary, meanwhile, appears simply to be burning through her donors’ cash. This may be the only way she can legally pay members of her inner circle with other people’s money — and she’s doing just that.
