Following the protests in Charlottesville, Confederate statues are being torn down across southern States. Some of them were ordered to be removed, while some have been destroyed by protesters.
The white supremacist rally in Charlottesville was initially billed as a protest against the removal of certain Confederate statues, so it makes sense that this would be the “revenge” that their opposition would take.Bizarrely, in addition to the Confederate status being vandalized, so was the memorial of the man who waged war on them.
According to NBC Washington:
Someone has vandalized the Lincoln Memorial, the National Park Service says.
The words “F— law” were found written in red spray paint early Tuesday on a pillar at the monument that overlooks the Capitol building and National Mall, NPS said Tuesday afternoon. The graffiti was found about 4:30 a.m.Work to remove the words is underway. A preservation crew is using a “mild, gel-type architectural paint stripper” to remove the paint without damaging the stone. The crew is applying a layer of the gel, rinsing it, checking how effective it was and repeating as necessary.
Additional vandalism, in silver spray paint, was found on a sign on the 1400 block of Constitution Avenue. Any words were indecipherable.
Shortly thereafter, one sharp tweet seemed to mock the arguments those on the far-left will undoubtedly make in justifying the vandalism:No amount of "b-but he FREED THE SLAVES!" whining is going to redeem Lincoln from his incontrovertibly racist and white supremacist views. pic.twitter.com/u8Icf0zS0f

But seriously, what the heck were they thinking in vandalizing Lincoln?
