Why Obamacare stinks for young people

The GOP is in need of people who can articulate a message simply and in a very engaging manner. I think I may have found someone and she is a young American. Senator Cruz made a brave stand against Obamacare for 21 hours. Julie Borowski says it in 4 minutes. And she certainly is a more concise and coherent communicator than President Obama. Even better, she connects across the generational spectrum in America.

  SORRY - I think it will be the SHAREHOLDERS to these companies - the “company” has nothing to do unless the SHAREHOLDERS “OK” it - much like - the BOcare was designed by a company owned by one of Michelle’s classmates - the company probably isn’t making ANY money BUT Michelle’s classmate is making LOTS of money…the same way MO makes MILLIONS being the POTUSW - WIFE makes more “under the table” than the POTUS makes in salary and PERKS! The “pharmaceutical companies” themselves are the companies that find cures or vaccines for cancer, tetanus, chickenpox, whooping cough, measles, diabetes etc…so they DO have a purpose - the PEOPLE - SHAREHOLDERS are the ones you mean.

The charges and prices that are mentioned on the Obamacare website are largely subsidized if you fall with in a certain income bracket from what I understand. So they aren’t footing the entire 200+ a month.

  Enlighten me. Who will be paying for the subsidizes and how? Of course I know the answer, people who don’t qualify for a subsidy pay through higher premiums, larger deductibles and co-pays. We blow up the system because 10% don’t have coverage because many don’t want to spend the money and most use the emergency room. I know of no one in this country who did not have access to health care if they needed it. Of course the Tax Payer has been paying for this anyway so why blow up the whole system instead of fixing the existing problems? POWER, NOTHING IN THIS IS REALLY TO HELP ANYONE.

    I didn’t say Obamacare was a good idea. Im simply saying that the information in this video and video title purports it stinks for young people (which are typically low income). All of their expenses are going to be subsidized by the middle and upper class. So its a pretty good deal for them, (until it implodes that is) and a horrible deal for the middle class and older people.

      If you are single, 30 years old and make $30,000 there is NO subsidy. This age and salary include a LOT of the American public that do not get a subsidy. But yes you are right it will hit the hardworking middle class person the hardest.

        hate to break it to you but I have been working 3 jobs simultaneously throughout my 20′s, made between 25-28k a year, with two children depending on me and i do not quailfy for a subsidy in any way. My brother who is young 20′s and made less than 21k a year working MANY hours a week-close to 35 - and full time student is not in the bracket to get any type of sunsidy so that is crap! To quailify for a subsidy you have to make Quite a bit lower than 24k - you have to practically make nothing - hence not have a job- which gets you either A) unemployment or B) government assistance. I lost my full time job while preggo with my youngest ( yes both by the same daddy - who I was married to when I became pregnant - just to clear that up) and had only my part time job to support myself, my daughter and my unborn child, cover all medical expenses as well and oh wait because I made exactly .50 over min. wage I was told I made too much money to quailify my daughter for the medical coverage she needed for shots - which God knows .50 more than min wage DOES NOT cover living expenses(rent, utilities etc) so sorry but your statement is NOT valid!

Really liked this. Actually this was the only thing that brought some humor to the train wreck of Obamacare. And Obamacare is nothing to laugh about. And what is really going on with Obamacare is the fact that they have cut way back on funding Medicaid and created a Medicaid extension where all we are going to pay for those on the new Medicaid extension through our premiums. It’s not about insurance companies or pharmaceutical companies,,,except they are now going to make out of this. And how many healthy Americans are actually going to sign up with an insurance company or on Obamacare web site when their premiums have doubled/tripled and their deductibles are exceeding $12,000? I hear a lot saying they will pay the penalty because if they are healthy,,,chances are they won’t really be going to a doctor that much so they will never even make a dent in their $12,000 deductible and the insurance company will not have to pay out anything; so paying the tax at the end of the year is cheaper than taking the “affordable” health care plan which isn’t affordable to the average American. Remember to vote in 2014. When Obamacare was voted in as a law,,,the Republicans didn’t vote for it. The Democrats did and it passed because they owned the Senate. Write your state Representatives, Congressmen/women and Senators,,,,no matter what party they are in and threaten their seats.

  I’m afraid you’re right. My sons are in their 30s, both voted for Obama the first time, and both of them still defend him and his policies. It makes me sick. Literally. If I had known that they were so susceptible to public-school indoctrination, I would have worked much harder to deprogram them. Unfortunately, I had no idea that they were being indoctrinated to such a degree. Honestly, it never crossed my mind. I’m sure that many conservative parents are finding themselves in the same boat (with traitors in the camp).

All insurance plans (Captalistic or otherwise) relying on income from healthy people to pay for the older people. Theres two things this child needs to know, noone likes to be sick, and shee too will someday be old. WOnder if her opinion will change then? I do agree with her on Obamacare.

  But all insurance plans didn’t have to cover things like maternity care if you’re 65 or a man. Healthy people could buy catastrophic insurance instead of full coverage and pay their doctors out of pocket. Now, everyone has to have super-expensive ultra-coverage, and because of the sky-high deductibles under Obamacare, they STILL have to pay for everything out of pocket because they’ll never reach their deductible. Oh, goodie, people will now pay through the nose for insurance but will never see a penny paid out!
  
  Obamacare is a scam, pure and simple, and has raised the cost of insurance (yes, even employer-provided insurance) for almost everyone, including us old folks, in case you haven’t been paying attention. By the way, many hospitals are now requiring patients to pay them the full amount of their deductible BEFORE treatment; do you have an extra $5,000 to $20,000 laying around somewhere?

    Essentially, if you have a $10k deductible, you are in a catastrophic plan because you have to pay that much before the plan starts to pay anything. A family of 4 making $50k a year will be essentially paying up to 28% (which is the coincidentally the federal income tax rate for that salary range) for PREMIUMS alone! How will people be able to save the $10k for the deductible (not to mention the additional $1-2k to meet the out of pocket maximum ) per plan year???

    lol sure you hit it on the nail! So how are you going to pay for it? I have a little advice based on common sense. If you have to pay 2 times what you used to pay for virtually no coverage, meaning the insurance companies will not be paying out anything for 80% of what would have been a claim on previous policies, where is all that money going? This is serious money we are talking about and to pay your obamacare you had best invest every last cent you own in health insurance stocks. The dividends might help pay a chunk of your obamacare. Health insurance companies are going to be raking in a ton of money. AND since Hospitals wont be having to cover any non insured people anymore their rates should drop right? Who wants to bet their rates basically stay the same? So to sum up. Hospital profits are going to go UP UP UP. Insurance company profits are going to go UP UP UP UP UP UP UP. Its the ultimate win win win for hospitals and insurance companies. Now all we need is some real honest people to put together a co-op not for profit health insurance company. That would be something a person might be able to afford. If members stay healthy and the company sees a profit then that profit gets sent back to the people.

Pretty well summed it up. The same people who so lambasted the federal government for its handling of the Hurricane Katrina and Rita disasters, expect the SAME federal government to suddenly find the competence to effectively manage a health care system for 310 million!?!? Obamacare didn’t add a single new doctor or nurse, but at least we’ll have 16,000 more IRS agents crawling up our collective arses and getting in our business.

  Social Security is just a little different since everyone who WORKS pays into it and then gets some back at full retirement age. MOST people need or will use Social Security unlike Obamacare which a significant number of people have no need of the entire coverage i.e. males and women over childbearing age who are covered for pregnancy and birth control and have NO choice of electing lesser coverage. Unfortunately, I didn’t have any choice on Social Security either. If I had been able to privately invest my $87,399 that was withheld from my taxes over my working lifetime of 45 years I would be a millionaire now. Alas, that’s not the case.

her point was well made and she is correct, young healthy people help care for older more often ill people HOWEVER she NEGLECTS to note that OLD people do NOT need birth control, abortion, day care, school lunches and ALL the educational tools used by young people - for FREE - but that OLD people pay for anyhow!!! It goes BOTH ways! The ONLY people who do NOT pay for health care in any way are: POTUS, his staff, congress persons, congress persons’ STAFF, UNION BOSS’ and their family - the ones who can MOST afford it are usually the ones who PAY NOTHING! At least “big corporations” take the “hit” from their profits and DO pay.

SOMEDAY people MAY understand and let it SINK IN!

    Yep a person who is 65 this year who made a median income has already paid in $30,000 in Medicare taxes on their wages and will have to pay approximately $59,370 for a good Medicare plan for the next 15 years if they live to be 80. total = $89,370 over a lifetime. And that’s JUST for Medicare.

    Terri - you don’t have a clue as to what you are talking about. The minimum premium for Medicare is $104.90 per month ($1,258 per year). Plus if you want good coverage you have to buy a Supplemental Medicare Plan which has an average cost of $225 per month ($2,700 per year) Plus the average person who has worked for 45 years has already paid in approximately $30,000 in payroll taxes to fund Medicare. If a person lives to 80 that would be $59,370 in Medicare premiums plus $30,000 in payroll taxes = $89,370 in a lifetime. In my book that is NOT free.

  I agree but however - non of my two childrens educcation is free. Nobody pays for their lunches - my education (college) - after all the healthcare “young person” she is referring to is those over the age of 18 and therefore more than likely no longer in highschool - these young people pay tuition, books, school supplies, lunches etc. My own two children who are in primartu school do not in any way get free lunches. I have never gotten free birth control. Daycare has NEVER BEEN free! That is and has always been more than my rent every month and I work 2 jobs, go to school and do odd jobs to help cover all these educationa; “tools” that you claim are free. If they are I’d like to know why I keep getting the bills!

Open Letter to Politicians and Candidates:

Most politicians these days are despicable people who cannot be steadily consistent on a complete set of principles because they appear to have no such set. They won’t state their principles, stick to them, and let the voters decide. Instead, they change their minds and “evolve” into whatever the polls seem to indicate is popular at the time.

To illustrate I’ll use life: Life, as a foundational principle, means that one can only be FOR or AGAINST life. To be for it in one situation, but against it in another situation shows that the person is double-minded and, therefore, unstable.

Most politicians seem to look at polls that say most Americans are for the death penalty and against abortions - so that’s how they vote. Yet, if we understand life as a principle we can see clearly that life is something we can only be for or against IN EVERY SITUATION. Therefore, to be consistent one would have to be FOR abortion & the death penalty, or AGAINST abortion & the death penalty. That’s consistency that rules out the possibility of being double-minded and unstable.

Our country follows unstable and schizophrenic paths because our laws have NO BASIS in PRINCIPLE any longer (the original US Constitution was based on principles, but we have drifted far, far away from that). Therefore, I would like to initiate the start of a consistent path for our country by encouraging politicians at every level to adopt a set of foundational principles and advertise them, letting Americans decide - on principle - who to vote into and/or keep in office.

Principles can be simple enough for everyone to understand (Life: For; or Life: Against) and will have the added benefit of getting the country to actually think in terms of principles again. Most of the “principles” I hear people talking about and see them writing about are higher-level (nowhere near foundational) and, therefore not principles at all.

Principles are the very lowest foundation of our existence, what our lives are built upon - NOT “I believe in a woman’s right to choose.” Which just goes to show how much education is necessary to swing the pendulum back to knowledge we used to have in our society.

Principles allow people an anchor of stability that limits argument - I am old enough to remember how arguments used to flow long ago. Two younger people would be arguing in circles for a while before almost coming to blows. Then an older person would chime in. The older person said very few words, usually only ONE SENTENCE, that made the two younger people recognize the folly of both their arguments and drop the “discussion.” Those few words showed the others a foundational principle that they were dancing around, getting frustrated over, but never articulating. Our society seems to have lost that ability for civilized discussion, to a great extent, because we’ve lost our ability to recognize foundational principles and have discussions on their basis.

Please make a principled stand for foundational principles by promoting their use at every venue you visit. America can only get better by getting back to the basics of principled life. Will you support this effort?

  in my humble opinion, as long as “money/special interests/greed” remain the decisive factors in determining who is elected to Congress and the “Oval” office, the current situation will remain and it will only get worst. The sad thing is that our representatives in Congress know how to fix this problem. Why don’t they do it? The all mighty dollar, arrogance and the need to feel all important stops them from passing laws to stop campaign contributions and other perks they continually receive through the “back” door once elected. It allways amazes me to see how peddling and pathetic these people really are during the time they’re running for office. After the election is over the one’s that got elected will not give you the time of the day unless they remember your name from all the checks you sent to their PACs to get them elected. Never mind the “little” people who went to the polling booths before or after work to vote for that person because the “little” people beleived this person was going to be different. After reading about him and listenning to his/her speeches and debates I said to my self “this is the one that finally is going to bring us justice and make our Nation proud”. But we know better don’t we?

    They won’t fix the problem because, frankly, America’s immorality means that Americans will lean more on the gov’t which means the gov’t gets more power & control. With that power comes more tax money to fund the gov’t solution to the problems. Therefore, American immorality means more power, control, and money to America’s leadership. Immorality works as well as war for this purpose.
    
    The only way to start to fix it is stop supporting YOUR Senator and House Rep(s). America is, again, double-minded on this point. They dislike Congress, but approve of THEIR representatives. Recognize that each of our representatives are PART OF THE PROBLEM. The only way to send the proper message to our replacement leadership is to make a clean sweep of ALL of them.
    
    It should be readily apparent that both Democrats AND Republicans have sold themselves as you described. You can find lists on the Internet that show how much each of them was worth prior to holding office, and how much after - the difference is STAGGERING.
    
    The non-biblically-principled mindset of these “leaders” is the main reason I see for there corruption. Therefore, we need people to run for office that are sound in biblical principles. Not people that SAY they are, but those who can PROVE it. That requires ALL of us to know what the heck these things called biblical principles are and how to consistently apply them.

You should know that mixing politics and religion will never work You say we need people with a solid foundation. First that would take everybody to believe in the Bible, (not going to happen). Even if everyone did believe in the bible, which bible should that be? The Old Testament, the New Testament, maybe the Armenian bible which includes the books Aseneth and Joseph, the Catholic bible with it’s many apocryphal books, how about the Ethiopic bible which has books most of us have never heard of. If we can’t all agree on one specific bible and it’s principles, this would create a double minded foundation, which you say will not work, “Any deviation and our foundation will be double-minded.” You say that “until people can settle on a single position” they are “double-minded and unstable”.. These are your words! So what you want is a society where there is no individualism, where everyone thinks exactly the same thing. According to your foundational principles, it’s the only way to fix this country. We must have a solid foundation. I believe Hitler tried creating this once upon a time, to put it in simple terms, it’s called dictatorship, and I really don’t believe there is anything biblical about it. In short, don’t mix politics with religion, it will never work!.

        They based our Constitution on principles that were acceptable to all major religions of the day because they recognized that only those who believed in a higher power had any hope of maintaining principles of any kind, especially the integrity that we lack as a country today.
        
        The 56 of them agreed on a foundation that propelled America into greatness. And note, that that greatness wasn’t without accepting blemishes (slavery pre-existed America), or going through hard times (Great Depression, WW I, WWII, etc.). What kept us through those times?
        
        A foundation of principles of religious origin. Build your foundation correctly and the house will stand firm for a long time. Accept your foundation as a “living” document and that foundation can mean anything the courts say it means. Which is to say, not worth the paper it’s written on.
        
        As to the assertion that it won’t work, I say it already has - all we need to do is get back to our foundation. This isn’t rocket science, it’s been done and it was more successful than any other country in history.

  I disagree with your example of life, that one must be for or against, and must choose consistently every time. You are not factoring in the concept that anti-abortion people (called “pro-life”) think the spilling of innocent blood is wrong. Those who favor death penalty see it as a matter of justice. I’m not denying the fact that sometimes there are people convicted wrongly, and that can be problematic, but our justice system is far and away better than the systems in some parts of the world where you can be stoned to death for your lifestyle.

    Terry, thank you for engaging. I am introducing, to some, reiterating to others the concept a foundational principles. These are principles that all statements and/or positions we ever take are built upon.
    
    If we, as individuals choose these principles well (such that they don’t conflict with each other and address every possible situation now & in the future) and see every argument in terms of these principles, then our foundation will be solid. Any deviation and our foundation will be double-minded.
    
    So, yes, my position is that a person who is FOR abortion and AGAINST the death penalty (or vice versa) is double-minded since they are not being consistent with the foundational principle of life.
    
    I am not making any claim here to choosing one side over the other, merely pointing out that choosing FOR life in some situations and AGAINST it in other situations is double-minded and unstable.
    
    I recognize that the concept is foreign to many, but the concept is based on my foundation: biblical principles. I haven’t always thought this way, I was double-minded for most of my life.     Terry, thank you for engaging. I am introducing, to some, reiterating to others the concept of foundational principles. These are principles that all statements and/or positions we ever take are built upon.
    
    If we, as individuals choose these principles well (such that they don’t conflict with each other and address every possible situation now & in the future) and see every argument in terms of these principles, then our foundation will be solid. Any deviation and our foundation will be double-minded.
    
    So, yes, my position is that a person who is FOR abortion and AGAINST the death penalty (or vice versa) is double-minded since they are not being consistent with the foundational principle of life.
    
    I am not making any claim here to choosing one side over the other, merely pointing out that choosing FOR life in some situations and AGAINST it in other situations is double-minded and unstable.
    
    I recognize that the concept is foreign to many, but the concept is based on my foundation: biblical principles. I haven’t always thought this way, I was double-minded for most of my life. Now that I know why I was double-minded and can explain the root of that double-mindedness I see exactly why our society is as well.

God didn’t obliterate Cain for his murder, nor will he obliterate non-believers when He judges them (they will simply have less comfortable accommodations than Christians for all eternity).         Don’t miss the purpose of the laws (Mosiac, Rabbinic, etc.). They kept the Jewish people from assimilating into the various cultures they were dispersed to throughout the world, and throughout the centuries. Modern Israel would not exist if the law didn’t stop their assimilation.
        
        When Jesus came He said to love your enemy and bless those that curse you. Therefore, there’s no room in Christianity for calmly voting to kill another human being. On this point American conservatives are mostly incorrect.
        
        The only way to be consistent with life as a foundational principle is to make the same choice (for/against) each and every time we need to make that decision. Anything else is being double-minded.
        
        God is consistent, in the beginning and in the very end He doesn’t obliterate humans. If we perceive inconsistencies in the Bible then it’s our perception that’s off, not the Bible.

When you have the death penalty it is the criminal that is choosing death when they break the law. To have the death penalty is to be pro life.

        Another way to look at it:
        When Jesus said to love your enemy He used the only word for love that means a logical decision as opposed to an emotional attachment of some sort. That word is agape. Meaning that we need to decide to love our enemies.
        
        At the time He was speaking to a crowd so this could have been taken individually, or scaled upward to an entire society. I see no room in this decision (agape) for doing something to another human being that God Himself doesn’t do to an unbeliever on Judgement Day - namely, put them to death.

Wished more young people, such as the young lady in the video, had paid attention before obama was brought anywhere near “power”.

I remember when young people couldn’t WAIT to turn 18 and move out on their own; it meant freedom and showed that you were not afraid to take on responsibility. In other words, it was not only hip but it was THE thing to do!

I remember practically dying to get my driver’s license and getting my own car. See my statements above -had the same reason for getting a car that I had for wanting to live and make it on my own.

If I was 26, healthy and able to work and on my parents insurance plan, I’d die from embarrassment.

This young lady in the video hits the nail on the head but that’s not who’s head we’d like to be hitting right now..

This all makes me so angry. I didn’t vote for Obama or his Obama care, but I am stuck with both. It didn’t take a genius to figure out he and his care plan was bad. How stupid are people. I am 60, don’t have a doctor, don’t want one. Don’t use medications, don’t need them. Don’t have insurance and haven’t for most of my life. Haven’t needed it. Don’t want it. I resent having to pay for something I don’t want and don’t need and won’t use except in an emergency. Now with the death panels that will be going into effect, I ABSOLUTELY don’t want it. Bottom line, it should be MY choice, not the choice of anyone’s government!!!!!

If you think that healthy people should not help with the cost of health care for unheathy people, then you shouldn’t buy ANY insurance - that’s exactly the whole point. It’s a capitalistic socialist concept that evens out unfortunate excessive burdens amongst a larger population. The whole purpose is that you don’t have to pay in direct relation to what your needs require.

Also, by this logic, wouldn’t all of you “rationally” self-interested old people support the law?

Insurance is not about healthy taking care of unhealthy people, and it’s not at all socialistic. It’s about a choice to pool resources based on an assessment of risk (whether it be bad driving, poor health, obsession with sky diving, etc.) in order to hedge against some unforeseen outcome of the activity that is being insured. And the idea IS that you pay in relation to what your needs require because you pay based upon the probability that the action you are insuring will end badly. Sorry “ignorance rules” but maybe you should try studying up on topics before you open your mouth. At the very least take a few minutes to look at Wikipedia if your knowledge base runs dry.

The young who have a very low risk are paying the same as those with risky behaviors and poor health in a disproportionate amount to their needs. Yes, healthy people do bear the costs of those in poor health with insurance. I believe that they call that actuarial tables..

You can’t pay then go figure out how to fix yourself, just not on my dime. I would like to know why such a great man like Allen West has ads for AARP on his website. They turned on all senior citizen when they backed obamacare. And that was because they stand to make BILLIONS with it in the next 10 years. At least 100,000 cancelled their memberships over this, me included. I was shocked to see those ads….
