Every D.C. firearm owner to be fingerprinted for gun registry

Just when you thought the whole “gun debate” was over, Emily Miller, author of “Emily Gets Her Gun,” of the writes in the Washington Times about the next progressive socialist antic. Amazingly she points out:

1,800 or so criminals who have killed, robbed or assaulted innocent people with guns in the District of Columbia so far this year were hauled into the police station to be fingerprinted, photographed and to undergo a criminal-background check. Now, legal gun owners who have committed no crime are getting the exact same treatment. That is neither constitutional, nor fair.

The latest gun-control scheme that starts on Jan. 1 will force every legal firearm owner in the nation’s capital to go in person to police headquarters to renew their registration certificates”. The Metropolitan Police Department filed proposed rules last week to enact this absurd law, and citizens have until Dec. 15 to comment on the regulations.

In order to avoid becoming a felon, anyone with a gun registered before 2011 will have to go to police headquarters to be fingerprinted, photographed, provide proof of address, pay a fee and confirm they may still legally possess the firearm. The Firearms Registration Section will then create a new registration certificate — now in the form of an ID card — for each gun.

If anyone believes there is no coincidence between this action and the Senate rule change of the filibuster you are missing something. You see, Harry Reid’s change will immediately allow President Obama to stack the DC circuit court which after the Supreme Court is THE most important judicial court in the land.

The DC circuit court is where any challenges to the Obama administration would have to be filed, as well as this case, if it cannot get to the Supreme Court.

So how likely will it be that the bad guys go down to a police station for registration? Not. This will only penalize the law-abiding. I suspect the National Rifle Association will be engaging this decree. Merry Christmas to law-abiding DC gun owners — and you can bet this lump of coal is via the Obama administration. The right of citizens to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. What part of that do these liberal socialists just not get?!

There is no logical reason for law-abiding gun owners to be fingerprinted while there are very obvious reasons for contractors to be fingerprinted.         We have the same BS here in SC. To have a CWP you must go and have finger prints done, submit them, along with the application, to the State Law Enforcement Division and wait 90 days to get your picture permit. Only then are you legal.

  I worked in DC for over 25 years. I refused to go to anything there and wouldn’t even consider living in Maryland. Virginia was the only real place to live.
  I watched the liberals in northern Virginia spread like a cancer further west and further south every year. The majority is still conservative, but they are too lazy to get out and vote. They complain about what is happening but do nothing to stop it.
  Soon the laws will be changed and it will be hard to ever get your rights back. I will blame the conservatives who either didn’t vote or that threw their votes away in a silly protest. Don’t waste your vote.

In Vermont cc is legal without a permit, but no other state honors the Vt. cc because there is no permit…catch 22? Anyhow, with guns being so easily accessible, no one seems to be afraid. Our superior police force is okay with the way it is.

Canada started with registration and as soon as that was completed the Gov’t came back and handgun confiscation was implemented. Then they were only allowed to have 20 rounds for their hunting rifle, which required 20 empty shell casings to be turned in to receive 20 new bullets!

  Which does not mean it should happen here. In case you haven’t noticed, this is the United States of America, not the EU. We have a Constitution which guarantees the right to keep and bear arms to all people, and also guarantees the right of all people to be free of unreasonable search and seizure of persons, papers, and property, except upon probable cause, with a warrant, and specifically naming the persons and things to be seized or searched. I don’t think a blanket administrative ruling rises to that level of specificity.

    infringe - to wrongly limit or restrict (something, such as another person’s rights). Doesn’t infringe as it doesn’t prohibit, limit or restrict access to anyone not a known criminal. Things everyone must acknowledge is that the total population, population densities, mental competence, transportation (and speed of) and threats to the individual have evolved and grown beyond what the framers could have imagined. Their ONLY concern was protection from the government. That is not the case now (though I acknowledge we continue to need protection from government) . We all have the right to bear arms, some abdicate that right while others embrace it and still others abuse it. Not an easy topic to discuss.

And, I dare say both my age and life experience probably would serve as a better gauge of what “they” ( I don’t know who they is) have tried failed and succeeded in doing. Very similar wording, all crafted not to look so bad, until you reach section 402 that is, where it assigns the authority to determine eligibility requirements to one man…wait for it…Holder.

  Concealed carry permit is one thing - it has nothing to do with what you own. This is gun tracking so they know where to go first once confiscation begins.

  Dean Burney….do a little more research on this specific topic and you will find it has nothing to do with JUST being a CCW holder. They are recording every serial number of every gun you own. You pay a fee for every gun you own every time you renew. I am a CCW holder in Arizona (although a permit is not required in our state to conceal a firearm) and there is NO recoding of which firearms you own.

  What good would it do for the House to bring charges of impeachment, when the case would then go to the Senate for the trial and vote to remove him from office? It takes a 2/3rds vote in the Senate to remove an impeached president and that is IF the Senate convicts him, which they would not.   You have to be finger printed anywhere you get a carry permit. DC wants you to be registered and fingerprinted just to own a gun. That is going too far.

    Not true. In South Dakota and most other western states there is no fingerprint requirement (CA, WA, OR not included, of course.)

I have been fingerprinted for conceal carry permit,, and don`t have a real big problem with it,,,.I do, however, have a problem with registering guns and being fingerprinted and having to pay a fee for guns I own by constitutional right.They do not know what guns I have and never will, only guns bought recently.
