Terrorist attacks and deaths hit record high

According to a report by CNN, the number of attacks and fatalities as a result of terrorist attacks hit a record high in 2012 and are on track to exceed that number in 2013:

More than 8,500 terrorist attacks killed nearly 15,500 people last year as violence tore through Africa, Asia and the Middle East, according to the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism.

That’s a 69% rise in attacks and an 89% jump in fatalities from 2011, said START, one of the world’s leading terrorism-trackers.

I read the START report LTC West included in his article. In addition to the stats showing an appalling and shocking rise in terrorist attacks under the obama administration, here’s some of what stood out at me;

“Sadly, it seems to be increasingly acceptable in certain belief systems to kill as many members of the other religious community as possible.
MORAL restraints seem to be ERODING”

-Martha Crenshaw, expert at Stanford University & START board member.

And Brian Michael Jenkins, senior advisor at the RAND Corp had this to say:

“Jenkins also cautioned that “terrorism” is notoriously difficult to define, and the increase in attacks does not necessary mean the United States is “losing the war on terror”. It could just reflect a shift in strategy among Syrian and Afghani radicals, for example”.
(oh yeah??? and why is that Mr. Jenkins???)

Meanwhile, here’s a tidbit from George Soros, back in 1997 from the Atlantic Monthly Company mag…
